Influenced by pop, folk, classic rock, jazz and modern day songwriters, some of Leslie's major influences include Carole King, Rickie Lee Jones, Tom Waits and Peter Gabriel among others. She has played in all kinds of settings, namely jazz groups and singer-songwriter settings, has fronted a trip-hop band, sung with a Midwest rock-n-roll outfit and is in and out of the studio for recording. She tours regularly and has just released her newest EP in September 2008, On Your Roof.
Leslie has been reviewed for her musical and cause related efforts many times in and outside of St. Louis, including articles about her environmental tour, The Green Light Tour 2007, which played 20 cities throughout the US and Canada in just over three weeks, teaming up with environmental sponsors, planting trees and raising awareness about global warming in each city she played.
Leslie is originally from Cuba, Missouri and grew up with an interest in music. She was a saxophone player beginning at age 11, but always had an interest in singing. She briefly studied saxophone in college before switching to a vocal performance degree in 1995. After training classically Leslie went on to study jazz and developed a strong interest in vocal improvisation. She also began playing piano at that time in addition to beginning to write pop music on guitar. Slowly piano became the instrument of choice for her writing and better allowed for the kind of harmonic sound she was seeking.
Leslie has lived and performed in Philadelphia and St. Louis and has begun touring regularly. She plays mainly the midwest and east coast, and has also performed in Canada, Asia and Europe. She regularly shares stages with Jen Woodhouse of Nashville and Chris Schutz from Philadelphia.
Currently Leslie's music is being featured on the Live365.com show 'Women of Substance', on KDHX (St. Louis), and on various satellite radio stations in Germany and Australia.
